Task 1

Unfortunately, the way you have uploaded your powerpoint restricts access so I cannot comment on how well you've put it together. Check the setting on that please.

However, based on your outcomes, you have a fantastic eye for layout and design. You chose images really well and clearly presented something that would not be out of place on a real magazine stand. My only negative criticism is the placement of your masthead. It looks great, but the practicalities of having it at the bottom of the magazine mean that it might be problematic in magazine racks. (Arguably this could be an advantage).

Great job. Very encouraging.

UPDATE:

I see your powerpoint now and it is exactly what I was looking for. Nicely presented with some simple comments and clearly linked to the final production. Spot on. Thank you.

Task 2

Firstly, and unfortunately, I still can't see your powerpoint properly. During the next lesson, let's work out what is causing the problem. I've seen it, so not worried about you having done the work, but it is vital that you work out this problem so that it doesn't cause difficulties when you come to your examined coursework.

As for the photography, look back over your images and make a note of the settings for the image you have identified as 'underexposed.' This image is actually beautifully exposed and looks great. It would be worth you experimenting with these settings again.

You were clearly inspired by the images you copied rather than literally copying them. You are creative enough to do this, but be prepared to really copy images sometimes, it is a perfectly legitimate way to ensure the quality of an image, especially when you are not entirely sure what will work best in a particular situation.

Task 3

Magazine - 17/25
The photography and control of layout and design is closer to 21/25. The muddiness of the front cover image detracts a little, but on first glance this is a convincing piece and I am sure that you will be able to push toward an A grade when it comes to the externally examined coursework. You are being held back slightly by the lack of text on your contents page, which I suspect is more to do with the constraints of the deadline rather than an artistic choice. If it was an artistic choice then I strongly suggest you make a different one on the examined coursework. Remember that contents pages are intended to suggest that the magazine is packed with content.

Your attention to representation is sound when choosing found images, but lacks thought when constructing your own images. Think carefully about what you are trying to say with your image choices.

Website - 17/25
I really like the top of this page, and your sense of layout and design is excellent. But overall it suffers from exactly the same criticisms as the magazine. So, needs more attention to representation and even more than the magazine it needs to promise a wider range of different content to the audience. This could be done very easily by adding a little more text to the front page. Remember, this is a magazine, so it is encouraging people to read.

Convergence. 7/10
While I have criticized some of the content of your website and magazine, there is a very clear sense of connection between the two. You will need even more in the examined coursework, but there is a strong sense the sensibilities of the website connect to the sensibilities of the contents page. You've done a good job of holding a sense of continuity.

41/60 = C+ (One mark away from a B)

This is actually pretty good score. Focus on the needs of your audience and your construction of representation a little more carefully and you will get an A grade easily
